UPDATE!!!

I can’t say much at the moment, but I just got booked as a stand-in art department PA for a TV show! This will be my first time on a show — to say that I’m excited for the opportunity would be an understatement. I am so fired up to know that I’ll be starting the new year with a week of work for a television art department. Eager for 2025 and a year of new experiences and opportunities!

UPDATE!!!

UPDATE!!!

I am currently in pre-production with Die She Must for Marla and the Man…

Die She Must is an up and coming production company started by two friends of mine. Many of the short films discussed in these periodicals were written, directed, produced and shot by these talented creatives. If you need a reminder of which content has been them— scroll to the bottom of this post for attachments!

Set in a world on the brink of apocalypse, Marla and the Man follows a young woman tasked with managing her heretic grandmother's bed and breakfast. As Marla grapples with isolation and the need to be loved, the world around her becomes progressively disjointed from reality, a constant visual reminder of mortality as the end of days draws near.

I thought it would be fun to show and discuss some of my research and mood boards!

General Vibe and Tone

Especially in regard to production design…

It’s important to note that one of the grandmothers quirks, was that she regarded celebrities as gods and believed in their Messiah-like second coming. This absolutely translates into the visual character of the set. This bed and breakfast lives in realism but the apocalypse and delusional homeowner allow me to take a bit of liberties dipping into surrealism.

That’s why I‘m so drawn to this research image. While busy and kitschy, this home is still rooted realism. Even amidst the grandmother influenced eccentricity, Sean Penn’s character (this goth fella on the right), is such a visual outlier; his presence in the image adds an element of surrealism.

Celebrity Worship

That image from “This Must be the Place” served as a huge inspiration to me as I continued my research. I realized the feeling evoked from having a strong visual outlier is absolutely something I want to run with. When looking at an environment, having even one element that juxtaposes the rest of the image/composition evokes a feeling of discomfort in the viewer. I think that this is such a beautiful way to use visual language to allude that something in this world is “off.”

Our World, Disrupted

Color story is one of my favorite ways to subtly display themes in our world. I don’t want to use red specifically, but the way that each image is disrupted by a pop of red is absolutely inspiration for a feeling I want to evoke.
