N°4

Hello and happy March! This past week our clocks changed and we lost an hour of sleep— but with that, we gained an hour of daylight and are starting to see the first hints of Spring. Everything I discussed in my last periodical is still in post production, so unfortunately no updates for the time being. However, I have a few projects in the works that I’m excited to show process photos of!

‘BREAK IT’ is the most recent music video I did the production design and set decoration for. An up beat and funky EDM track sets the tone for our video, where music artist ‘Solos’ wakes up to a disaster of his own making due to a trip gone wrong. I’m going to include some stills from the rough, uncolored cut, so I felt it necessary to give some context to the photos you’re about to see.

I was also in charge of sourcing/ creating props and set dressing, as well as scouting the locations!

Alex’s Research Archives

Every designer needs their own arsenal of visual research to draw inspiration from at a moments notice. For years now, I've been compiling a photo album of research images I’ve taken. All of these photos felt necessary for me to capture at the moment, each scene, setting, whatever you want to call it… really made me feel something. So now, as I explore and observe new and familiar surroundings, when a strong feeling comes over me, I know that’s my cue to take a picture. I thought it would be fun to show a handful of my favorite research images collected in the past month.

The Art of Production Design

This past Saturday, I was given the incredible opportunity of getting to attend a panel hosted by the Art Director’s Guild. This panel was to hear from, and honor the artists nominated for Best Production Design at the Academy Awards. Getting to hear these production designers and set decorators discuss their nominated projects and how they got into this career path was so beyond inspirational.

Hearing these incredible artists discuss their

craft only emphasized how eager and excited

am be in an art department in the future.
